The Big S turned one this month and this past Saturday we celebrated in style with a firefighter themed party that was hot enough to start a 7alarm fire.
For the weeks before, I was crossing my fingers and praying for a dry party day. It has been raining off and on for weeks; but the sun was shining on the Sophers when we woke up that Saturday morning so it was game on!
We headed over to Village Park to set up with Ted, Alice and Stiles Cotton. Stiles was also celebrating the big one so he was a co-party planner with the Sophs. Grandpa and Grandma Sebra drove up from SoCal for the big party day.
The party started off with arts and crafts. Each kid got a firefighter hat and then decorated with stickers and glitter.
As soon as the kids were all geared up, down the road came Engine 36 with some of Burlingame's finest crew.
Firefighters Steve Bezzozi, Charlie Geffen, and Danny Boyle came to help Sophie celebrate her first birthday. We figured that since they were there for the day of her birth, that it was only fitting that they come to celebrate her birthday.
They pulled out the support line firehose from the rig and then let all the kids spray the hose. I think the adults were more excited than the kids to see this. I was AMAZED at how far and hard their smallest hose sprayed. Sophie stepped right up and turned the hose on full force.
Stiles took more of the observer approach- "You spray it. I'm just going to chill here and suck my thumb."

Then it was time for cake. Alice made the most INCREDIBLE firehat shaped smash cakes for the two kiddos. The rest of us had chocolate fudge cake with cream cheese icing from Draegar's (it is the best most moist cake I have ever had- love it!).
We put the kiddos in the high chairs and they started chatting with each other not even realizing that there was cake to be had.
We put the cakes down and they just stared at them. Even though we had practiced with a cupcake on her birthday, Sophie just looked at us like "This is cool, but what am I supposed to do with this?"

The pig tails are adorable. Although her birth story was a little traumatic for you-- I must say it is a pretty cool story for her to have...and a good party theme.
